HERS-Home Energy Rating Services

Are you a skeptic?  Think ‘building green’ is just yet another way to milk more money out of you? The HERS rating system is a real, put-your-hands-on-it, third party evaluation of the energy efficiency of your home. Read on to learn more about third party verification.

A HERS rated home receives an energy gauge report that looks like this: a sample HERS report This evaluation will tell you what to expect in annual energy costs.  Additionally, you could qualify for an energy efficient mortgage (EEM) which will give you more buying power and potentially better terms.

The rating is based on the energy efficiency of your home as compared to a computer-simulated house of the same size and shape that meets the minimum requirements according to the (IECC).  The proposed home or as-built home and the Standard Building are modeled using accredited building simulation software tools and the results are ratioed.  The person performing the test must pass an examination and perform five ratings under the supervision of a certified rater.
